MACHINE KNITTING TECHNIQUE DEVELOPMENT

Intro: This one-week intensive course is aimed at current students, undergraduate or postgraduate, or participants wanting to learn and advance their knit techniques. You will have some basic previous knowledge of the domestic punch card knitting machine and its uses. Ideal participants will come with a textile, knitwear or relevant background.

Delivery: The course is conducted over 5 days. You will be taught how to develop existing machine knitting techniques and encouraged to experiment with what you learn throughout the day, creating a number of swatches demonstrating your newly learned skills and experimentations. All samples are yours to keep and study later. This will be taught in small groups on domestic Brother knitting machines (one per student), for your own accessibility to positively implement what you learn at the Knit Ward in your projects, future collections and into your industry careers. Using various yarn compositions and gauges and tools that we will provide, you will be developing the following techniques: Weave, Slip, Tuck, Holding, Lace.

Space: Our space is inclusive and diverse. The studio environment is to foster creativity and encourages conversations, exchange of ideas, collaborations and community. At Knit Ward we hope to push the boundaries of the knitted fabric into experimental textiles. The courses and workshops are devised as a need to bridge the gap between the classroom and the creative industry. We hope you can join us soon.
